Yes, indeed we are. Yesterday was the first day back to reality after squeezing every last drop from the final moments of the Labor Day weekend and the first day showing brand spanking new spring collections. So, yes we are here….as we physically drag ourselves begrudgingly into fall while still remaining emotionally entwined with summer. Looking at warm weather clothing and accessories somehow seems unfair, but as they say, it is what it is.
One of my favorite collections season after season is Red Valentino. Not that it particularly applies to me and my lifestyle, but it is charming, sweet and so very fresh, and it inaugurates the start of every show season in New York. This season designers Maria Grazia Chiuri & Pieropaolo Piccioli channeled a modern Marie Antoinette nymphette with an OCD penchant for matching her accessories to her clothes.
Sprigs of lavender decorated not only her kitten-heel slingbacks but also the accompanying chiffon dress with a demure Peter Pan collar and pouf sleeve. Adorable! An Ancient-Italian blue & white pottery print made it’s way onto a simple short sleeve blouse and matching sockettes, naturally. What a delight! And perfect for all those young coquettes out there who dig the matchy-matchy vibe, a creamy low-cut corset top embroidered with a bouquet of pastel florals, worn with what else, matching lace-up floral embroidered booties. Sweet! But no look would be complete however, without a matching fan clutch in powdered blue, for when you’re feeling faux-shy and the ultimate nod to the unfortunate Queen M. herself, a blood-red feather sprouting from the skinniest of chokers, oh so purposefully tied at the models’ throat throughout the presentation. Well I guess a touch of cheek never hurt anyone. Well, almost.
